If you have seen older references to the Airbnb Host Guarantee, that terminology is now outdated. Airbnb’s current host protection programme is AirCover for Hosts.
AirCover provides several protections for qualifying Airbnb stays, but it should not be treated as a replacement for appropriate short-term-let insurance.
What does AirCover for Hosts include?
As of 2026, Airbnb states that AirCover for Hosts includes:
- US$3 million Host Damage Protection for certain guest-caused damage;
- US$1 million Host Liability Insurance for certain legal liability claims;
- guest identity verification;
- reservation screening; and
- a 24-hour safety line.
Coverage is subject to Airbnb’s terms, conditions and exclusions.
Host Damage Protection is not the same as insurance
Airbnb explicitly describes Host Damage Protection as a protection programme rather than an insurance policy. It can reimburse hosts for certain damage when a responsible guest does not pay, but not every type of loss is covered.
Hosts should document the condition of the property, report damage promptly and retain photographs, invoices and other evidence that may be needed for a reimbursement request.
Host Liability Insurance
AirCover also includes Host Liability Insurance for qualifying Airbnb stays. This can provide cover where a host is legally responsible for certain bodily injury or damage to a guest’s or third party’s property, subject to the policy terms.
Why London hosts still need separate insurance
Platform protection does not remove the need for suitable property insurance. This is particularly important if you accept bookings through Airbnb, Booking.com, corporate channels or direct reservations.

Reduce risk before the guest arrives
Insurance and platform protection are only part of risk management. Effective guest vetting, clear house rules, accurate occupancy limits and regular property inspections can reduce the likelihood of disruptive stays and serious damage.
